“FANtastic! The Art of Chinese Fans” is the third exhibition of the China Arts Festival in the EU and brought a fresh combination of traditional Chinese crafts and paintings by 39 artists of our time to the visitors, along with 12 hand-made round fans which are considered to be Chinese intangible cultural heritage. The exhibition was held in November 2016 at the DG for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs of the European Commission (DG GROW), right at the heart of the European neighbourhood in Brussels. Chinese fans, which enjoy a history of more than 3,000 years, integrate multiple art forms including painting, calligraphy, fabric art and craft designs. “FANtastic!” is part of a wider project of the China National Academy of Painting, aiming to tour its painting collections and promote Chinese fine arts abroad.

Prestigious guests from both Chinese and European sides gathered for the opening ceremony. Minister Wang Hongjian of the Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the European Union announced the official opening of the exhibition. Mrs. Lowri Evans, Director-General of the DG GROW, Mr. Istvan Ujhelyi, Vice President of the Committee on Transport and Tourism at the Parliament and President of the Europe-China One Belt One Road Culture & Tourism Development Committee, Mr. Zhang Jianzhou, Vice-President of China National Academy of Painting, and Mrs. Julie Patterson, Co-president of the Committee of China Arts Festival in the EU, all gave speeches expressing their congratulations to the success of this exhibition.

For this exquisite exhibition, Atlas International Culture provided a full package of services: logistics and transportations for the artwork and the Chinese delegates, press coverage of the exhibition, event production and management for the opening ceremony – including press relations, invitations, VIP guests management and catering management.
